02/13/2023 Firsts compelling results of the COMPANION-CM project

Recent results of the COMPANION-CM project have been recently shown. In the demonstration, a robot observes human behaviour and predicts the object that will be needed next.

09/15/2023 – We’ve just submitted the proposal ‘RoboEmpathy’ (ERC Synergy Grant)

  • PI1 Prof. Carlos Balaguer, University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain (corresponding Principal Investigator (cPI) and corresponding Host Institution (cHI))
  • PI2 Prof. Johanna Pirker, Graz University of Technology, Austria (HI2)
  • PI3 Prof. Luisa Damiano, IULM University, Italy (HI3)

01/07/2025 the COMPANION-CM project came to an end

On 31 December 2024, the COMPANION-CM project came to an end. This synergistic project was funded by the Community of Madrid, with reference Y2020/NMT-6660, within the framework of the 2020 call for grants for synergistic R&D projects in new and emerging scientific areas at the frontier of science and of an interdisciplinary nature.

Videos

This demonstration video shows how a robot predicts the intention of a human in the short term, based on the analysis of its visual field, the dynamics of its gaze (where they look at any given moment) and its body movement (how they positions themself). The goal is for the robot to know what objects the human needs when the human looks at them, without the need for a vocal command. The demonstrator is deployed and we are performing the experiments that will close a paper to be submitted next month [Elisabeth Menéndez-Salvador et al., 2023].
